Pattern: Snug Wrap Diaper Cover pattern
These instructions are going to be included in the new version of the Snug Wrap pattern, due sometime before I die. Here is a sneak peek!
These instructions were put together by Jessica of Mommy’s Little Sweetie. Thanks Jess!
Here you see the whole pattern traced out. No changes yet.
I measured in 1" on the wing and completed a curve.
On the front panel I measured in 1" on the top and 2 1/4" on the side andjoined the two marks with a curve.
Here all of my marks have been made. I kept the elastic marks the same so that it didn’t change the size of the SW.
Now I have my pattern cut out and you can see where the changes have beenmade.
I gathered my elastic on the front panel so that it still had a snug fit. SoI marked the middle of the front panel and measured in 2" on each side of my mark.
Here I have cut and serged together my two layers of PUL and marked my elastic anchor points.
Then I started my FOE about 1" before my first elastic anchor point on the back waist.
I continue all the way around the wrap with my FOE never cutting it zigzagging a little past where I first started.
Once my elastic is sewn down I then turn my wrap over, wrap the elastic to the back, stitch it down and cut it off.
The following placement for the snaps is for the MED or ML snug wrap. I haven’t done the measurements for the others. The only thing that I suggest is that you make sure that when you place the snaps you have it far enough down on the wing so that you won’t get a gap. (I hope that makes sense.) I went in 1" from the edge of the wing and started my snap placement. I placed the snaps 1" apart horizontally and 2" apart vertically.
On the front panel I placed the snaps on the elastic to help keep it fromcurling. I placed them 2" apart.
Here it is with all of the snaps placed.
I kept the VB label on the front because I felt it was important to have it there (for Very Baby Licensees).
Also here are a few pictures of the ones that I made…

As with all of the tutorials on the Diaper Fabric site, these instructions are for home use only and are not to be used to sew for profit without a license and/or express written permission from the pattern designer.

Do you know when this pattern will release? I’ve been thinking about orderingf the snug wrap pattern, but if this is being added within a month or so I’ll probably just wait.
Thanks!

I wish I knew - I wouldn’t bank on it anytime soon. Revisions seem to take me a long time (I’m such a perfectionist!) I hope we have it available this year, how’s that for broad?

I would also love to see the instructions or the pattern for this. I love the idea of trim fitting diapers that I can make myself.

I really would like to see the pics too. I have the snugwrap, and it fits DS well, but I prefer SS covers.

Hi everybody, sorry about the pictures. I hope to have the instructions back up as soon as I get the newly revised pattern in my hands to review before it goes to print.

Seriously! My 2.5 year old is wearing a VB Simply Nights for the first time tonight, and I made a front-snapping VB Snugwrap cover to go over it (since I had no covers to fit a large Simply Nights). I think side-snapping covers work better for him, so I really need to make some this week. I’m reading the directions posted here, and it looks like she’s reducing the wing size and the front panel size? I’m having a hard time visualizing how that would work without changing the overall size of the cover. Just seeing a pic of the two patterns overlayed would be super helpful. As it is, I guess I’ll just have to wing it (pardon the pun) and see what I end up with. DS needs covers now, so I can’t wait until next year.

Hey Boscopup! Maybe if we get enough Divas over here we’ll get some pictures!!!

boscopup says:
Well, I tried following the pictureless directions on a size small, and the front turned out fine, but the tabs are too short. I don’t have enough snap settings. In a small VB fitted, he still easily has another snap setting to go, but in my modified small side-snap Snugwrap, I’m pushing it to get the legs on the loosest snap after chopping off the tabs like that. Maybe I’m not understanding the directions, but when I started working with this, I was thinking the tabs would be too short, and sure enough…

I think there was a picture where it says you can see all the changes that showed extending the wings out 1 or 2 inches.

I wish. The gal who is revising and redigitizing the patterns for me has had some personal stuff crop up that has delayed the re-prints and subsequent release. I’ll admit the revised patterns aren’t the most pressing “to-do” item on our diapershop.com task list, so we’ve let her take the time she needs.
I do know that the Very Baby Diaper pattern, SnugWrap pattern (with new side snap directions and template) are both completed on the pattern level, but the instructions aren’t done yet, and she hasn’t started on the All in One at all.
I will try to find some time to re-create the side snap SnugWrap myself and get some photos up. If any of you ladies who are trying to follow the pictureless instructions want to submit photos, please feel free.

I was wrong, the wings are not extended. I made a medium today:

and it fits great!

Too cute Jess!! I know I’ve heard (on other boards) that for the smaller sizes they think taking that 1″ off of the wing is too much. I could see how that is possible. I only had H to test on and she was a M / ML. I think really you probably could leave the 1″ on the wing and just add another set of snaps. Maybe I’ll make a few for the new babe and I’ll let you know what I think. Though I’m not sure my babies are good testers because they are so skinny!

Oh thanks for replying - ladies this is the Jessica who created this tutorial and got me the photos back today (big round of applause!) Very good to know, Katie’s in a M and M/L too so I don’t have anybody to try the other sizes on.

Yay! Thanks for the great pictures! I have made 1 small and 5 mediums before the pics were put back up. I’m the one that said the 1″ off the wings was too much for a small. My baby still has one more snap setting to go in a VB fitted, is on the tightest snaps in a VB AIO made with snaps, but I can barely get that side-snapping small Snugwrap on him. He wears the Aplix small Snugwraps just fine. For mediums, I took the 1″ off of 4 of them that I made for the baby, and he’s wearing them now - they fit great. But he only has one more snap setting to go in the waist, so he’ll probably have to jump to larges once he gets into medium diapers. The 5th medium I made for a friend as a gift, and I left the tabs long - just made the front panel curvy. I don’t know how those will fit her yet, as she’ll hopefully be getting them this week.
I tend to have big waisted children, btw.

That’s so good to know. When I (finally) get the proofs for the pattern sheets from the gal who’s digitizing everything for me, I’ll go over the instructions and make sure to note leaving the wings the same size for smaller sizes may be recommended. If I can get my act together I’ll gather some tester babies and see what I find out. Thanks!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I know I harassed you so I wanted to be sure to thank you for getting these back up! I really want to get the Snugwrap pattern soon, so is there any chance you would send out the changes when the new version of the pattern became available?
September 5th, 2007 at 5:46 pm
Very Mom says:
No problem! I’m glad Jessica was able to find the old pics. I was in the process of sewing one up that day and my photos are not as great as hers.
I can’t even guess when the patterns are going to be out (the revised ones), I hate to even give you a ballpark, since we might go past it, but we’re hoping for March.

Is there a reason to double layer the PUL?
September 5th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Very Mom says:
The PUL isn’t double layered, can you clarify what you’re referring to?
September 5th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
lorie hohlf says:
She is probably referring to this statement.
“Here I have cut and serged together my two layers of PUL and marked my elastic anchor points.”
September 5th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Very Mom says:
Ah, yes. Okay - you don’t need to use two layers of PUL but some like to just to hide the shiny laminate inside. Jessica probably used two in this tutorial due to her embroidery on the outside layer.

Thanks so much for the quick response. A friend and I are going to attempt these snap wraps this week and I wanted to get all of the info I could. We are both SAHM so I wanted to make sure there I wasn’t using a lot of PUL (expensive) for cosmetics.

I am so grateful for this tutorial. I have fallen in love with fleece wraps with prefold soakers. So much so that I run out of prefolds before I run out of contours. I use them with and without covers. Anyway, when my son started squirming, snappis became a headache so I decided to try snaps. Placement by trial and error takes a lot of snaps and covers for that matter. With this tutorial I was able to throw out my homemade fleece pattern and just run with what you did. I do my fleeces just a little different. I use regular elastic instead of FOE and cover it with fleece. Originally, the regular elastic was just what I had on hand, I did one cover with the FOE and no fleece cover and found that the elastic with the cover makes for better blowout containment. Now that I got all of that out, my snap placement on the front is going to be a little different, I think. I see what you mean about making sure to place the snaps low enough on the wings to avoid gaps, I believe these are a little high. Please excuse my pitiful first attempt (snaps a bit uneven.) but does anyone have a suggestion for snap placement of the front panel? I was going to take a picture of the pattern and indicate where I tried to put them but I am not as computer savvy as Jessica. I don’t know how to make those measurement markings show up on a picture.

OK, I’m making some NB and S size Snug Wrap Side Snapping covers and am still confused about the wing length and snap placement of them. Do I trim the wings at all? Are the snaps to be closer together than on the M tutorial?
Thanks,
Rebecca O.

Very Mom says:
You do not trim the wings at all, and the snaps probably will be a bit closer.
