Sew a Wool Diaper Cover

Pattern: Very Baby Cloth Diaper Pattern

These photos and instructions were put together by Cindy at Shannyn’s Harvest - thank you Cindy!

Step One: Cut out your pattern pieces just as you would to make a diaper. However add an extra 1/4″ - 1/2″ all the way around your pattern. Use two layers of felted wool jersey or wool interlock.Use the same elastic anchor points but move them out towards the new edge so they are the same distance from the edge as they are on the diaper pattern.

Step Two: Apply the elastic either to just one inside layer, or to both using the blind method. Apply your snaps just like the pattern directs, though you’ll want to move them out a bit to line up with the new edge. Add two snaps about an inch apart to the back if you plan on using a Mini Diaper with your new wool shell.

is there a way to do this with the turn and top stitch method? i would assume you just add an additional 1/4″ as the pattern explains for the original VB fitted. so i would add an additional 1/2″ to 3/4″ all around the original pattern? does this make sense at all? also…i’m assumiong i would do the elastic the same way as directed and place the snaps accordingly. any help or advice is appreciated. thank you

Yes, you got it, I think I’d do a half inch all around. Stitch the elastic to one side then sew it right sides together leaving and opening and turn it right side out, stitching the opening closed. When to topstitch be careful not to stitch over the elastic.

    HTH!
